↪️Planning a trip? Find my Vietnam Food Maps and Street Food Experiences in my bio 🤩
📍LOCATION: Bánh Mì Chảo Buê Đuê - Cô Lệ
Lô E - chung cư Nguyễn Thiện Thuật, Hẻm 213 Đ. Nguyễn Thiện Thuật, Bàn Cờ, Hồ Chí Minh
If the video didn’t fully explain why locals lovingly call this spot “Gay Bánh Mì,” it comes from the simple idea that the platter uses two types of eggs, fried egg and scrambled egg. The egg whites are white, the yolks are yellow, and locals jokingly connected that contrast to the idea of gay people having a mix of masculine and feminine energy. At least, that’s the story I’ve heard behind the name.
The original owner passed the shop down to her younger sister about three years ago because of health issues.
Since her younger sister and brother-in-law took over, this has become one of the warmest local food experiences I’ve had anywhere in the country. The shop sits inside one of those old apartment complex neighborhoods in Saigon that I absolutely love visiting.
Both auntie and her husband have worked in food and hospitality for more than 20 years, and they have some of the best energy and personalities you could ask for. So if you want to explore a different side of Saigon, eat local food in a truly local setting, and support genuinely lovely people, this is definitely a spot worth checking out.
